The Role of Enterprise Architects in Cloud-Enabled IT

How EA should think of cloud

I  recently presented at a Cloud Developer Conference in Chennai about the Role of  Enterprise Architects in a Cloud-Enabled IT organization.

In the presentation I stressed the following points.

  • The core tenants of a EA in a traditional Enterprise IT like Strategic Planning, System Architecture , Software Engineering Remains the same between a traditional enterprise and a Cloud Enabled Enterprise at a high level
  • However the implementation aspects of each of these building blocks of EA are different for a Cloud Enabled Enterprise
  • However EA has to think a lot of about Non Functional Requirements like Security, Scalability, Availability when it comes to a Cloud Implementation
  • While PaaS gives lot of flexibility, the traditional aspects of Software Engineering like best design patterns still holds good
  • I summarized that the EA Role changed from building to Every thing from Scratch to a Strategic Broker of Consuming Services towards betterment of business.

The complete presentation about the role of the enterprise architect in Cloud-Enabled IT can be seen from the location.
